KazSat 1 (Template:Lang-kk), the first Kazakh space satellite, was launched on June 18, 2006 by Proton-K rocket. Containing 12 K_u-band transponders (each 72 MHz), KazSat was a communications satellite planned to occupy a geosynchronous orbit approximately 36,000km above the Earth. It was produced by Khrunichev Space Center in cooperation with Thales Alenia Space. Partial control of the satellite was lost in July 2008 and completely in October 2008.<ref>Template:Cite web</ref>
