Mulyayeva made her first Kazakh team, as a 19-year-old, at the [[2000 Summer Olympics]] in [[Sydney]], where she competed in the [[Swimming at the 2000 Summer Olympics – Women's 200 metre individual medley|women's 200 m individual medley]]. Mulyayeva decided to drop her specialty event, the 200 m individual medley, and experiment with the [[Swimming at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's 50 metre freestyle|50 m freestyle]], when she competed for her third time at the [[2008 Summer Olympics]] in [[Beijing]].
