The Central Asian salamander is found in the [[Dzungarian Alatau]] mountains on the border of [[China]] and [[Kazakhstan]].
Its natural [[habitat]]s are temperate [[forest]]s, [[tundra]], temperate [[grassland]], [[river]]s, intermittent rivers, freshwater [[marsh]]es, and freshwater [[spring (hydropshere)|springs]]. The species is threatened by [[habitat loss]].<ref name=IUCN/>
