==History==
The locality was founded in the 1930 as a settlement serving the prison camp. It was known as the ''26-ya Tochka'' and was part of Akmolinsky District of Akmolinsk Region. In the 1960s, both the district and the region were renamed Tselinograd.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://82.200.130.64/print/1151716529|title=Зола для Феникса|last=Тараков|first=Александр|first2=Игорь |last2=Бургандинов|date=1 July 2006|publisher=Kazakhstan Today|language=Russian|accessdate=11 May 2015}}</ref> In 1976, the settlement was officially renamed Malinovka. On 9 January 2007, the administrative center of the district was transferred into the ''selo'' of Malinovka, which was simultaneously renamed Akmol.<ref name="dist">{{cite web|url=http://celin.akmol.kz/a/54/content/orajone|title=Целиноградский район|publisher=Official website of Tselinograd District|language=Russian|accessdate=11 May 2015}}</ref>
==Economy==
Traditionally the local economy has been based on the poultry industry, with the prominent Akmola-Phoenix firm employing some 500 people.
==Landmarks==
During the Stalin era, the locality became notorious for the presence of a labor camp for "wives and children of men who were interned elsewhere as 'betrayers of the motherland'" ({{Interlanguage link multi|Akmol Labour Camp for Wives of Traitors of the Motherland|ru|3=Акмолинский лагерь жён изменников Родины}}, abbreviated as ALZhIR).<ref name="MayhewBloom2010">{{cite book|last1= Mayhew|first1= Bradley|last2= Bloom|first2= Greg|last3= Clammer|first3= Paul|author4= Kohn, Michael |title= Central Asia|url= https://books.google.com/books?id=B9m-hrsrtfYC&pg=PA179|year= 2010|publisher= Lonely Planet|isbn= 978-1-74179-148-8|page= 179}}</ref> The Museum of the Victims of Repression in Akmol opened on 31 May 2007; it documents the events, and an arched monument commemorates the [[Great Patriotic War]]. An alleyway behind the museum displays the names of locals who fell in the war.<ref name=Meeting/>

The local theatre or "house of culture" has around 630 seats, and hosts various events, such as the [[Russian Folk Choir]]. The Malinowski Folk Choir was established in 1973.
