==Accident==
At the time of the accident [[Alma-Ata]] was experiencing a [[heat wave]]. It was around 00:39 and Flight 4225 took off from Alma-Ata Airport in Soviet Kazakhstan.<ref name=asn /> Only a few seconds after take off, the flight reached 500 feet. The weather was not on the flight's side; the plane reached a zone of hot air and then the Soviet aircraft's [[airspeed]] dramatically dropped and the plane was caught in a big [[downdraft]]. The Tupolev [[Stall (engine)|stalled]] and plummeted, nose down, into a farm near the suburbs of Alma-Ata. Having received the information about the aircraft's location, [[air traffic control]] (ATC) gave an erroneous instruction to turn. The crew also mistakenly chose a [[Course (navigation)#Aircraft heading|heading]] of 199 degrees instead of 140. ATC subsequently gave the proper heading, but instructed the crew to descend to {{convert|600|m|ft|abbr=on}}, whereas the minimum safe altitude for the surrounding terrain was {{convert|4620|m|ft|abbr=on}}.<ref name="airdis"/> Knowing that the aircraft was on [[collision course]] with mountainous terrain and having the right to ignore the ATC in this situation, according to the [[Flight Regulations of the Civil Aviation of the USSR|Soviet flight regulations]], the crew chose to make a turn instead, continuing their descent to {{convert|600|m|ft|abbr=on}}.<ref name="airdis"/> Having informed ATC of their situation, the crew received a [[Ground proximity warning system|ground proximity warning]].
